Life and education in a foriegn country.
Back in 2003 my family immigrated to the Spanish city of Torrevieja. I was 11 years old and thus in year 6 at the time and was enrolled at a Spanish Primary school. The teaching and methods used in the Spanish school were vastly different from that I was used to back in Wales. The school was huge, the size of a small British comprehensive school. The methods in teaching were very different. We had different teachers for different subjects something which doesn't happen until comprehensive school in the UK. The classrooms still had black boards compared to the more modern white boards back home. Easily the hardest thing to adjust to was the language barrier but even though I was only in the school for around 2 months I managed to learn a fair amount of Spanish.

Were there many Spanish teachers who couldn't speak English?
ReplyDeleteOut of 5 teachers who taught me only the English teacher could speak fluent English.
ReplyDeleteAmazing, I love the contrast in education systems. I have been to Torrevieja on holiday, it is a lovely place to grow up.
